What is Euro FLAG?

Euroflag is a network of European organisations for Families of Lesbians And Gays.

Euroflag was formed at a meeting in 2000 in Venice, attended by representatives of parents’ organisations in France, (Contact Français) Belgium (Tels Quels PEH), Germany (BEFAH) and UK (FFLAG).
Its aims are:

  • Raising public awareness on issues surrounding homosexuality
  • Affirming the equal rights of our daughters and sons
  • Fighting every form of discrimination against LGB people and their families
  • Enabling LGB young people to grow up in safety and develop a sense of their own worth.

Early history of European co-operation

In 1998 Paola dall’Orto who had set up AGEDO (Associazione Genitori di Omosessuali) in Italy contacted Jenny Broughton of FFLAG (Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) in the UK with her vision of a European organization:

together we will be strong and we can make things happen

Paola organised the meeting in Venice at which Euroflag was formed.

In 2001, the Spanish organization AMPGIL, based in Barcelona, joined Euroflag.   We met in Brussels (warmly and generously welcomed by Tels Quels) and at our first meeting worked on a Constitution and agreed to apply to the Belgian government to be registered as a European organisation .  From the beginning we received great support from Michael Cashman MEP.
